Damn you, Matthew Clairmont!

I have tried extremely hard to get this damned vampire out of my brain today...but it is NOT working.  Whilst at Costco today, what did I do while walking by the books section?  Look for A Discovery of Witches.  What did I think when I saw the smoked salmon?  "Oh Matthew would like that." And what did I do when I got home?  Searched endlessly through photos of the Bodleian.  Because I wish I were there...right now...shooting electricity from my fingers and opening that damned manuscript.

Yeah.  I think I may be hooked. Stay tuned...

  2. LOL Jennifer! Oh my - the pressure! What if you don't like it? I'll feel so bad! Seriously - I do like it. To the point where I'm bumming because my Kindle just crapped out on me and I had to plug it in. I am on chapter 16 and it takes until Chapter 13 or so to really start to get into it (sound familiar??) so don't worry if you're kindof "whatever" at first!

  4. Ha, loooooove my Kindle.........hate that it has no backup battery. Also hate that it won't always let me read when it's charging.

Thanks for the Chapter warning. You must recall it took me 5yrs. to finally read past page 50 of Outlander. What was I thinking??????

    1. It's so bizarre - I can never fully leave Edward in the dust. He's like that boyfriend you kept going back to. LOL

  6. OH MY WORD!!!! Brandy, we MUST be related!! That's exactly my order of obsessions!! I just finished a reread of The Bronze Horseman.......have you read the entire trilogy?

  7. LOL Jennifer! I have read all of them and boy that last one was a killer!! I read early last year I think. Haven't done a reread yet though. My 'to read' pile is so huge that I have a hard time fitting in rereads. I barely managed to squeeze in an Outlander series reread last year but I did. I just adore Tatiana & Alexander though. They are probably my #2 after Outlander. I'm thinking maybe I should fit them in over the summer. Maybe we can get Carol to read them too!!

  8. Yes, I too suffer from Multiple Book Disorder. I have 3 friends reading the BH trilogy now. 2 have read the first two already, but won't read the last until the ebook version comes out in June. I need some serious therapy after the last book. YIKES!

My friends & family now get a copy of Oulander and The Bronze Horseman for B-days, etc.

On DG's blog, Rhona recommended "The Russian Concubine" (if you liked the BH). Have you read that trilogy yet?

Anyway, back to A Discovery of Witches.............I'm lovin' it so far!

  9. I do the same thing with those books! I just sent my BFF's mom TBH in the mail. I use paperbackswap a lot and I just keep myself on the waiting list for Outlander and TBH because I know that there is always someone to give them to.

I have not heard of The Russian Concubine. I'll have to look it up. I have heard a lot of praise on that forum about Dorothy Dunnett books and I have gotten the first one of those but haven't read it yet. I also have the first two of Sara Donati's sitting here and someone just told me there is a mention of Young Ian and Claire in them!?! How awesome is that? I really need to read those soon!

  10. Ohhhhhhhhh, thanks for the recommendations!! Looks like I have my summer reading all lined up!! Plus another read of BH whenever Carol gets to it............can't you just hear her squeeeeeeeee-ing over Dasha, Dimitri, Luga, Lazaraevo????!!! I simply CAN'T wait!

Have you read the "Other Boleyn Girl"? My friend nearly lost her mind when I told her I haven't yet.

  11. What has Deborah Harkness done? Only created a character so compelling that female readers instantly fall in love with him. Perhaps its because she's taken everything that women look for in a man- and invested this in a character who is timeless, immortal and enigmatic. is he Rochjester/Heathcliff/Darcy for our age? (and last night I bought Benedictine and wondered in which century he might have drunk it first!)

  12. I am completely in love with Matthew and I read ADofW multiple times until SofN came out... as if I were 13 and not 48! And I very much dislike the genres of fantasy, historical fiction and romance. So why do I love these books so much? No idea.
