My Matthew Clairmont

Have I mentioned who my Matthew is?  Coincidentally, his name is also Matthew.  Matthew Goode.  Feast your eyes...

  1. He's been my Matthew since the first time Deborah Harkness described him in the Bodleian. The yum-factor is off the charts!

  2. But isn't Matthew supposed to be like 37 or so (in human age, I mean) - Matthew is in his twenties, I thought. I picture someone slightly older looking I think.

  3. Uh - on that last comment, I meant Matthew Goode is in his twenties - so confusing that they both have the same first name! :)

  4. I think Matthew Goode just turned 33. I can handle that. And honestly - I've learned from My Outlander Purgatory not to cast. This is just how *I* see Matthew in my head. You could probably throw a little Rupert Everett in there, too. :)

  5. eehh...he's too baby faced for me. I mean he IS hot, don't get me wrong!! I just need some more "rugged" or "bad boy" thrown in the mix. Get me?!

  6. I hear ya, sister. I know exactly what you mean. I think I picked him because he looks devious but refined - and he's who popped into my head in the library that first day. I'll have to find a shot of him at his worst? LOL! I know he didn't look at that pretty in Leap Year. I'll try that. ;)

  7. I know I'm talking about the wrong book, but he's my Roger Mac. :) Or at least the closest thing I can think of.

  8. Hildy - if this was Roger Mac I might be swayed to like him! I thought this was a perfect image of Matthew - exactly what was in my head - HOT!

  9. Me like Matthew Goode as either Matthew or Roger Mac!

  10. Not bad. I always picture Matthew Macfadyen as Matthew. He has the right names as well. ; )

  11. So, I LOVE him. Matthew Goode was amazing in Watchmen. And, he totally fits in as Matthew Clairmont, but for some reason I've been picturing Joseph Morgan (Klaus from Vampire Diaries) and he's blond, but like, voice and all stuck in my head.

by the way your blog is amazing.

    1. Thanks Symonne! Glad you found me! :) OMG I never thought of Joseph Morgan. I LOVE him. I've always thought of him for the Outlander series...but A Discovery of Witches...not bad!! (PS - are you caught up on Vampire Diaries? Yowsa. I won't say anything, just in case.) :)

  12. He is delicious! I could definitely se him playing the role of Matthew Clairmont/Roydon/de Clairmont... Although, the Matthew in my head has straight hair, not curly... and a more defined jaw line but this bloke will do. Yum-o!

  13. I think that Matthew needs to be 35 to 37, be extremely tall and have a strong jaw and chiseled features. The book describes him as being rather too good looking to be real. We also know he is the tall, dark and handsome type. On the All Souls Facebook page, DH has some drawings of Matthew Roydon which do not look like her description of Matthew in the books at all. The drawings have a really pointy chin and a weak jawline, which might have looked refined in 1500, but Matthew is described as handsome by 21st century standards.

Matthew Goode does nothing for me. He doesn't look strong enough or like an "old soul". Here are some ideas for a Matthew in looks, maybe not personality: Ashton Kutcher (I know he looks like a homeless guy now but look back at his photos as a model. I think they could clean him up!), Rufus Sewell (a little too old but dreamy and the right vibe), Greg Vaughan, Freddie Prinze Jr., Peter Facinelli (look at him of him with dark hair), Matt Bomer (if they could make him look taller).

  14. Definitly Matthew Macfadyen! Watch Pride and Prejudice pkus Bbc's Ripper Street. He is an amazing actor. Totally fits the height and broad shoulder aspects of the Matthew De Clairmont. He can also play the romantic side as well as the menacing don't mess with me side. He is the only actor I can picture for the role.

  15. I feel badly for saying this, but this guy is much too young and soft looking to play Matthew De Claremont. MacFayden is getting too paunchy and tired looking, although a few years ago I would have said perfect. the others mentioned have no acting chops and Matt Bomer, beautiful as he is, is just that , beautiful and feminine. Richard Armitage, who I realize has had legions of maddened women swooning over him for years, is really perfect for the role. He has the ability to be tender and endearing and frighteningly sinister as well as a voice like melted butter over chocolate. He is my one and only pick.

  16. Darling, he is beautiful, but much too callow and young. Richard Armitage is the only actor perfect for this part. Your choice would make a great Benjamin. Macfayden has let himself go and looks like he drinks, thus the paunch and the pudge. Cavill is also too soft looking, Jackman is too old. Armitage Armitage Armitage.
